Van Isle Windows Ltd. is growing and we are hiring a Financial Controller

Currently we are growing and looking to hire a qualified Financial Controller who is not only technically competent but just as importantly, a good fit with our team. So what does that mean? It means that while you know the importance of the numbers and getting those right you also know that you are there to provide a high level of service – to not only the owners and staff but to customers, vendors, and everyone else you come across in the role. You know that change is a given and while you may not always embrace it, you do know that being open to new ideas is always a good thing.

The role is an important member of the organization’s management team, with full responsibility for management and oversight of all financial functions including:

  • Management – hiring, supervising and management of 2 to 3 accounting staff.
  • Accounts payable – review accounts payable invoices for correctness of entry and that
    correct approval processes have been adhered to. Review weekly cheque run prior to
    presentation to General Manager for approval.
  • Accounts receivable – review customer invoice processing in both Fusion (window making
    system) and SAGE, ensuring correctness of entry and that standard company processes have
    been adhered to. Joint bi-weekly review of outstanding invoices with Accounts Receivable
    Administrator and General Manager
  • Payroll – verification of weekly payroll runs as processed through PayWorks. The
    organization currently has up to 70 employees and payroll includes hourly, salary and
    commissions.
    Provide backup to payroll function in the event of absence of Payroll Administrator.
  • Inventory recording – work with purchasers in retrieving and analyzing information tracked
    in Fusion and QuickBooks, ensuring correctly reported in SAGE.
  • Monthly reporting and reconciliations – preparation of monthly financial statements
    package including reconciliations, margin analysis, KPIs and monthly management reports
    for presentation and review with General Manager and management team.
  • Budgeting – develop, implement and monitor annual budgeting process, providing monthly
    actual versus budget variance reporting and input to the management team.
  • Remittances – prepare, validate and ensure submission of GST, PST and WCB in a timely
    manner and in compliance with government regulations.
  • Annual audit – lead role in working with company’s external auditors in preparing and
    presenting year-end package, ensuring records are accurately and completely recorded in
    according with Canadian generally accepting accounting principles.
  • Human resources – administration including new hire letters and packages, addition of new
    employees to benefits package as well as administration of any on-going changes, ensuring
    employee deductions are correctly setup and reconciled to the payroll system.
    Keep current on provincial employment standards as well as internal human resources
    policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or completion of Chartered Professional Accounting designation (CPA).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in full service accounting. environment including
    hiring, training and management of staff.
  • Adept at using software including MS Office (Word and Excel), SAGE and QuickBooks.

Qualifications that would be an asset but not required are:

  • Highly service oriented and respectful to direct reports, management, staff, and customers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Very detail and quality oriented, ensuring accuracy of information.
  • Flexible to changing priorities while ensuring all required monthly and statutory
    requirements are adhered to.
  • Provide recommendations, advice and assistance in both operational and strategic initiatives
    including process improvements and cost reductions.
  • Annual review and recommendation of the company’s benefits package
  • Review and monitor financial contracts, financing agreements and insurance policies
  • Play key role in participating in long-term financial strategies, participating in weekly
    management meetings and providing high-level advice and guidance.

This is both a leadership and hands on position that includes:

  • installing windows, patio doors and entry doors in both replacement or new construction
  • installation of replacement skylights
  • installation of sun-tunnels
  • installation of various trims and trim details, both inside and outside
  • preparing and installing various flashing details
  • framing and rot repairs
  • roofing knowledge
  • insulating (foaming) and caulking
  • sheathing and papering
  • ability to work off ladders and/or scaffolding
  • building envelope knowledge
  • interaction with customers daily, both internal and external
  • scheduling

Qualifications:

  • Construction experience, might be a journeyman carpenter
  • Familiar with with BC codes and ratings

Qualifications that would be an asset but not required are:

  • Some experience in reading blueprints for both multi family and single family dwellings
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • First Aid Certification (of any kind)
  • Genie Lift Operator Certification
  • Fall Protection Training
  • Asbestos Abatement Certification
  • WHMIS
